Compare your options. For example, some programs are less expensive than others. Some are comparatively close to home. Others offer specific programs that aren't available elsewhere. Some have less strict admission requirements.
Check for accreditations. Accrediting agencies include the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the National Council for Teacher Education, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and other organizations. Some of the nation's top-rated programs are ranked annually by U.S. News & World Report. Some are affiliated with the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate.
